If you want to buy an Intel Core i9-12900KS in Germany, you can do so now. Cyberport makes the CPU available for 869 euros. In the case of an alternative, 10 euros less would be due, but with an unknown delivery date. In the USA, the CPU is offered with 739 US dollars MRSP – if you calculate that at the current exchange rate and add the taxes, you would get exactly 800 euros at the moment. But Newegg also sold above MSRP, for $800 plus tax.

Otherwise, everything you need to know about the Core i9-12900KS is already known. In principle, you get a Core i9-12900K with a 2.5/4.0 GHz clock on the E cores (+100 MHz), as well as 3.4 and 5.5 GHz on the P cores (+200/300 MHz ). With the boost, however, it should be said that this is the Thermal Velocity Boost, which is only provided if the general conditions allow it. Otherwise it is 5.3 GHz (+100 MHz). First tests in the USA showed that a lot has to fit together for high boost. The CPU did not boost to its peak values, which may have been due to the cooling or the lack of microcode updates for the mainboard. That remains unclear until more tests are available. Intel had apparently pre-supplied selected media.

Core i9-12900KS: First tests show “fastest gaming CPU in the world”

The CPU is also clearly a case for enthusiasts who want exactly this model. The achieved additional performance hardly corresponds to the requested surcharge, which also causes the media that have already been sampled to recommend the CPU with restrictions. Better value for money can be found elsewhere – including in the Alder Lake portfolio. The Core i5-12400F is the current best in terms of price and performance.

AMD will only position its direct opponent for the “fastest gaming CPU in the world” on April 20 – on paper at 449 US dollars it is considerably cheaper. It should be interesting to see what the large cache can do against the high clock rates. For the moment, the Core i9-12900KS almost consistently took the lead in the available tests.
