The most famous little mouse in the world of fiction, Mickey Mouse, was born on November 18, 1928 during the screening of Steamboat Willie. It was only a year later that Walt Disney decided to lend him his voice on the occasion of The Carnival Kid, for the next 20 years. Each year, the little rodent has therefore continued to grow well. But, did you also know that Mickey Mouse was the first fictional character to receive an Oscar in 1932?
A true star of fictional cinema, both for children and for adults, Mickey has marked generations since his birth. Between 1928 and 1953, the production of his cartoons will have produced up to 118 films, with a record in 1932 of 14 cartoons created in just one year. That same year, Walt Disney, and especially his character, were also rewarded for their talent.
Indeed, it is March 7, 1932 when Walt Disney is awarded a special Oscar for the creation of Mickey Mouse. The SDN (League of Nations and ancestor of the UN) also gives a prize to the little mouse, “considering that (it) brings together peoples and cultures from all over the world”. She then becomes the first non-human fictional character to receive an Oscar.
Since that day, the Walt Disney firm has won several Oscars. Usually, very few animated films are presented from the Best Picture Oscar category. The beauty and the Beast in 1992, up there in 2010 or Toy Story 3 in 2011 were presented there. Unfortunately, they didn’t win any Oscars.
