In 2008, the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation began to organize the Swedish Championships in birdhouses. This is to reduce the birds’ housing shortage and to engage children and young people in nature issues. Now it has been decided who won this year and the jury selected 15 finalists from all the 500 entries that came in from students all over Sweden – from preschools to high school. The 15 finalists have competed in three different categories: preschool class – year 3, year 4-6 and year 7 high school.
The winners are Class 2C at Mössebergsskolan in Falköping for the grant “Skogens holk” which received 49 percent of the votes in its category. Then we have Class 5B at Kvinnebyskolan in Linköping for the grant “Bee like a bird” which received 44 percent of the votes in its category and Class 8F at Västra skolan in Falun for the grant “Bastuholken” which received 53 percent of the votes in its category. This year’s special prize goes to the Special School at Sanda education center in Huskvarna for the grant “Trafikljuset”.
Pictures of all finalists’ contributions can be found here.
