There has Ron Gilbertthe creator of Monkey Island, fooling half the adventure community. First he announces on April 1st on his blog grumpygamer.com announces a new Monkey Island game in what many consider to be a tired April Fool’s joke. And today he leaves them bomb burst:
I felt bad about the April Fool’s joke, so I put together a game over the weekend so no one would be disappointed.
And then follows the trailer that you can see at the end of this news. In it, a ghost pirate lady plays the Monkey Island theme on her violin, while the skull Murray remarks that there should never be a new Monkey Island game…
And yet what fans have been waiting for for ages is finally happening. Ron Gilbert and his studio create Terrible Toybox Return to Monkey Island. Also his longtime colleague Dave Grossman is on board, as well as Michael Land, who is again responsible for the soundtrack. Fans of the original synchro can catch up on the return of Dominic Armato as Guybrush Threepwood rejoice.
The game is being developed in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games and is set to be released later this year. However, it is not yet known which platforms will be supported or what the exact content of the game will be, but more information will surely follow shortly.
