According to the statistics that have been exposed, some notebook computer suppliers have cut their shipment targets for the first half of 2022 by double digits, and some suppliers will reduce their orders by as much as 50%.

Some component suppliers are concerned that the slashing of shipment targets by brand suppliers could mean the entire notebook market will begin to enter a downturn.

But there are also those who believe that suppliers were too optimistic in setting initial shipment targets, and that lowering the target to normal levels would benefit the overall supply chain. They also said: “The second quarter is typically a period when laptops are switched from older models to newer models, which provides a good time for sellers to make inventory adjustments and strengthen preparations for the traditional peak season in the second half of the year.”

Some component suppliers could see their shipments drop by as much as 50% in the second quarter as brand customers slashed their first-half sales targets. But that won’t happen with Dell’s supplier of mainstream business laptops and Apple’s MacBook line, both of which remain in strong demand.
