With an exterior completely in dark, matte aluminum, extra thin screen edges and a very stable chassis, the Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro feels like a much more expensive computer than it is. This is partly because it is just that, it cost more earlier this year, but has recently received an official price reduction. Now our model can be bought for just under SEK 8,000. Ideapad 5 Pro is also available with a 16-inch screen, but here it is the 14-inch that applies.

Opinion
Most performance and best screen in its price range, elegant design, high-class sound, and quality in details such as webcam and keyboard. This is an offer that no other manufacturer at the time of writing matches. Battery life is a disadvantage, but one of very few.
Positively
- Most performance in the class
- High-resolution quality screen
- Excellent build quality
- High quality in most things
Negative
- Limited battery life
- Slightly loud cooling
It is not the thinnest and lightest computer in its class, with a weight of 1.45 kilos, it may be too much for those who are looking for something truly mobile, but as a compact and flexible computer at home or in a larger bag while traveling. the perfect. The construction is high class straight through, from a nicely assembled chassis, a high quality feeling in the keyboard and a stable hinge for the screen, but still flexible enough to be able to fold it up with one hand.
It’s not just the build quality that is worth the money. This is also one of the most powerful and well-equipped laptops we have seen at this price level. The processor in it is a six-core AMD Ryzen 5 5600U. It is one of the processors in the Ryzen 5000 series that is based on Zen3 architecture instead of Zen2, which gives it a significant boost in performance in certain types of situations, such as video rendering.
However, it is not the fastest of all. Intel’s Iris Xe graphics are sharper, though not by a large margin. Memory and storage match other laptops in the price range, with 8 gigabytes of frame and 512 gigabytes of semi-fast ssd. Worth noting as one of the computer’s few drawbacks is that the RAM is soldered on the motherboard and can not be upgraded. This is not unusual but can be pointed out.
Stylish, fast and many pixels
You also get an unusually good monitor for the price range. It has 16:10 in aspect ratio and 1400 points in height, which gives it an extra sharp image. In addition, it has good contrast and color gamut in srgb class, which makes movies and photos shown on the extra lively. The brightness is not the highest in the class, but it actually exceeds the 300 cd / m2 that is promised when we make a measurement. The screen also has the option of being set to 90 Hz frame rate, which makes window handling and scrolling extra nice and smooth.
However, we only recommend it if you have the computer mostly at home and are close to a wall socket, because it undeniably draws extra energy, which together with the higher screen resolution contributes to shorter battery life than competing 14-inch. In 60 Hz mode, it lasts longer, but is still behind competitors we tested.
However, the battery charges relatively quickly with the included charger which is connected to a dedicated type c-port. In addition to that, there is one type c-port and two usb 3 type a-ports. External monitor can only be connected via a separate hdmi connector. There is no display port function on any of the usb type c ports.
High quality in most functions
Ideapad 5 Pro produces nice, airy and detailed sound from its two speakers on the bottom of the computer. There are grilles on each side of the keyboard that first make us believe that the speaker elements are sitting there and are facing upwards, but this does not seem to be the case. So what the point of that design detail is, we do not understand. It sounds good anyway, much thanks to Dolby Atmos support. However, there is a lack of pressure in the base for it to be called clean.
You get a reliable webcam, with good control of color tones and light, and noise-free image in most lighting conditions. The computer’s built-in microphone is also of a good standard, with pure voice recording without too much background noise. A bonus for the webcam is that it has IR recording, which allows it to be used for biometric face recognition for logging in to Windows. That’s a good thing, because you can not get fingerprint losers.
The computer belongs to an older generation and comes with Windows 10 Home. We do not get an immediate prompt in Windows Update Manager to switch to Windows 11, but it is free to do the change manually. It’s free for now, until at least this fall, and easy to do. The computer has a small set of extra programs, but the only thing we would call bloatware is the trial version of McAfee’s security program Livesafe.
