World of Tanks will be managed by a subsidiary in the two countries in the future.

World of Tanksdeveloper Wargaming announces to close all operations in Russia and Belarus. It is not explicitly said why, but the war in Ukraine is probably the cause.

This means that the company releases its “live games”, including World of Tanks / Warships / Warplanes in both countries. There, the titles will be run by the former subsidiary Lesta Studios (formerly Wargaming St. Petersburg). Wargaming and Lesta will have nothing to do with each other in the future. Wargaming will probably continue to handle the game series in the rest of the world, even if it is not explicitly stated in the press release.

Wargaming writes that they will not make a profit on this, neither now nor in the future, and that they will rather make “significant losses” on the deal. Finally, it is announced that the office in Minsk will be closed and that it will be done “in strict accordance with the law”.

Wargaming was founded in Minsk, Belarus in the late 90’s, but since 2011 is headquartered in Cyprus. World ofThe Games are their greatest work, and in 2016 it raised $ 400 million. But despite the setback, Wargaming seems to see a bright future:

Despite the magnitude of this decision, we as a company are confident in the future of our business and are committed to delivering quality games to our players.
