The trial of a lawyer accused of being a central figure in the biggest tax scandal in German history began on Monday. Hanno Berger, 71, was extradited in February from Switzerland, where he had spent the last decade. On Monday the former star lawyer arrived in court in Bonn handcuffed, and sat listening to the charges against him being read out for almost two hours. He is on trial for his role in what is known as the Cum-Ex affair.
