Specialists of the Competence Center of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) “Digital Materials Science: New Materials and Substances” presented a self-healing film for a smartphone.
The film is made of thermoplastic polymer and after heating removes up to 95% of scratches. No ultra-high temperatures are required – a regular hair dryer will suffice.
According to the test results, the maximum degree of restoration of the mechanical properties of the thermoplastic film was 95% within 48 hours. Visually, the surface was restored almost completely.
The strength of damaged areas is restored up to 53% – new molecular bonds are formed in the material. Recovery efficiency is maintained for scratches up to 1.5mm deep.
