Pretending to be a Russian beauty to accumulate 2 million followers
For the big V who has accumulated 2 million followers by pretending to be a Russian beauty, Douyin decisively banned it.
An account named @Russian Nana suddenly became popular on the Douyin network. In the video, a person with a “Russian fake face” speaks poor “Russian Chinese”, sometimes singing, sometimes doing “science popularization”, and has accumulated nearly 2 million followers on Douyin.
Because of its weird face, some users can’t help but question the authenticity of the person’s gender and nationality in the comment area, but more people are “seeking” it. On the evening of April 1, Douyin officially released the “Announcement on the Handling of Counterfeit Accounts and Other Underworld Behaviors”, pointing out that four accounts, including @Russian Nana, had abused platform props and counterfeited fake personas. It carries the penalty of indefinite ban.
Regarding the “abuse of platform props” mentioned in the announcement, some people think that it is “AI face-changing”, that is, replacing other people’s faces on their own through artificial intelligence technology. Some people also pointed out that this may be some kind of special effect that Douyin comes with that can change the facial features and outlines of people to foreigners – and the use of this special effect is basically 0 threshold, and the purpose of use also lacks rules and supervision.
And this kind of fake “face”, fake “identity” and Internet popularity through technical means are not uncommon all over the world. Some users in the comment area once questioned that the screen of “Nana” is weird and the facial features are blurred. It may be an AI face-changing, taking advantage of the recent popularity of Russia to “rub traffic”.
Some people also said that Douyin has some “foreigner” special effects or filters as shown in the figure below, and “Russian Nana” may also use these special effects to change the facial features and disguise as a foreigner. But in a lot of praise, these doubts were basically drowned out…
Two years ago, the technology was quite mature. On the open source community website GitHub, there is a project that can replace your own face with someone else’s face in real time. What do you think of the behavior of technology being played badly?
