After the last DLC Beyond Light released at the end of 2020, Bungie presents “The Witch Queen”. This time, the developers have decided to focus on the story, which is already very rich. Will Savathun’s return permanently plunge the Guardians into darkness? The answer right away.
After the release of the Beyond Light expansion, which was not necessarily well received by players, Bungie had to do everything to catch up and offer rich content with The Witch Queen. And the first moments spent in the company of this extension really announce very beautiful things for the future. Sister from Oryx leads us to discover his world, of incredible beauty. The atmosphere of this content is superb, and allows us to discover Mars with a new eye. Bungie really worked to evolve the story, with a very present threat, where the last DLC “Beyond the Light” left a feeling of deja vu for most players. The content really focuses on the story this time, and takes the side of abandoning the PVP a bit.
We come back to the scenario therefore, since the Guardians will have to face a great threat. Direction Mars where Ikora awaits you to investigate and find out what is behind this great danger. The Abyssal doctrine is highlighted, for a more precise customization that will allow you to adjust your power according to your desires. This requires the recovery of unique materials and, once is not custom, you will have the choice between many configurations between powers, weapons and armor. It is even possible to create a new category of weapons with the arrival of the spear. In terms of gameplay, it mixes ranged attack and melee, with the possibility of evolving according to the frags but not only. On Mars you now have access to a hunting board, directly linked to the gunsmith of the tower and the Cryptarch.
Let’s go back for a few moments to the crazy atmosphere that awaits us on Mars. We really forget the latest version of the Red Planet well known to old players, to discover a new pyramid, underground temples, a swamp forest, … Everything is graphically successful, with real mastery from the developers and for a really successful set. This expansion has three main chapters, each with several steps. The flow of gameplay is reminiscent of dungeons and raids, with puzzles and platforming phases more marked in the manner of an exotic quest. A new power lurks on the planet, and this one will allow you to access undefined locations on the map. Lost Sectors, Region Chests, Patrols, Public Events, Assaults, Adventures, not to mention the progression system, this content will keep you busy for quite a while. So yes everything is well known to the Guardians, but the rhythm, the OST, the environment and the evolution of the story are reminiscent of renegades at first sight. Newer players may be a bit lost, especially if they haven’t played the first Destiny, especially with the Hive coming back in better shape than ever.
Regarding the evolution of the game, everything has not yet been revealed, but the scenario looks very dark for the Guardians of Light.
The season has already started, and 100 levels are again offered with the need to checkout to collect everything. However, free content will be offered to players, and the challenges of the week, like the weekly quests, will make you progress in experience and light. Concerning the light precisely, a rebalancing has been made for a minimum now fixed at 1350 and certain activities available until 1550. The path may seem long, but prestige equipment awaits you in the dark nights, assaults and various quests .
