The measure was taken on March 8, and 3M issued a formal notice to its customers on March 18.These clients includeSamsung Electronics, SK Hynix, TSMC and Intel.

According to industry sources, customers’ inventory can bewithstand one to three months. Unless supply issues are resolved during this time, global manufacturing is likely to face a huge shock. This is because coolants are essential for semiconductor etching.

The Belgian government’s regulations relate to the discharge of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are water resistant as well as heat, oil and water resistant. They are widely used in cosmetics and dental floss, and may cause hormonal disturbances when they accumulate in the body.

Today, both the United States and the European Union are tightening regulations to minimize associated emissions.
