Apple is testing a device with a 9-inch foldable display, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the company is unlikely to release a foldable iPhone until 2025 or beyond.

On his Twitter Kuo informedthat Apple is “actively testing” a device with a 9-inch foldable OLED display with a PPI somewhere between the iPhone and iPad. This device is purported to be used to evaluate and validate the key technologies involved in Apple’s foldable device and may not match the specifications of the final product.

Kuo believes Apple will focus on mid-sized devices first, then large display devices, and finally small devices like the iPhone when developing foldable products.

Kuo also revised down his prediction that Apple would release a foldable iPhone as early as 2024, saying it’s now clear it won’t happen until 2025. The device can be an iPhone/iPad hybrid or just a foldable tablet.

Kuo’s comments came in response to a report from The Elec that claimed Apple was working with LG to develop a foldable OLED panel with an ultra-thin screen protector for future Apple tablets and laptops.
