Apple is working with LG Display to develop a foldable OLED panel with ultra-thin screen protector for future iPad and MacBook models, according to Korean industry publication The Elec.

According to the publication, LG Display will supply HP with flexible 17-inch OLED panels with 4K resolution later this year. They will be used in 11-inch laptops that can be expanded into 17-inch tablets. It is worth noting that LG has experience in the production of such screens – the company has been supplying 13.3-inch foldable OLED displays for the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold since 2021.

In addition, LG Display has partnered with Apple to develop a next-generation foldable OLED panel with ultra-thin protective glass instead of polyimide, which is now used in most flexible displays.

Recall that earlier DSCC analyst Ross Young also shared an insider that Apple is exploring the possibility of releasing laptops with flexible displays with a diagonal of up to 20 inches. Such devices could form an entirely new product category for Apple.

According to sources, Apple will not release a laptop with a flexible screen until 2026.
