If the iPhone is one of the best smartphones in terms of photography, it is however not the undisputed leader. Whether at the hardware or software level, the competition shows Apple. On the other hand, the iPhone leads the way when it comes to video. Excellent stabilization, a cinematic frame rate of 24 fps, slow motion at 240 fps, innovative Dolby Vision, a Cinematic mode (to be improved all the same), a differentiating Macro function and a plethora of accessories are part of the arsenal of advanced and professional videographers. With the arrival of the ProRes format, the video functions are even richer and keep the competition at bay.
It was on the iPhone 13 Pro that Apple added ProRes, a codec perfectly suited for post-production with professional requirements. We can however wonder if this ProRes extends the cinematographic furrow a little more or if on the contrary Apple, as a great marketing specialist, offers its smartphone a sophistication in contradiction with the automation that the iPhone owner uses by default on a daily basis. . The answer is not definitive. The iPhone can play on both counts even if, as we will see, on a smartphone, the ProRes format remains for the moment dedicated to a few niche functions.
