The Satellite Communication System Innovation Center of the National Space Administration is committed to continuous research and verification of 5G-based broadband satellite communication system technology. The innovation center has independently developed and built a key technology verification platform for the physical layer of broadband satellite communication, which has the ability to model and simulate high and low orbit satellite communication channel scenarios.

On the basis of this platform, the innovation center has carried out a wealth of technical research and experiments, and preliminarily verified the availability of the 5G-based broadband satellite communication system in high and low orbit satellite channel scenarios.

IT House learned that the National Space Administration’s Satellite Communication System Innovation Center is a provincial and ministerial-level key laboratory dedicated to the research of new-generation satellite communication cutting-edge technologies. China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, as one of its supporting units, is mainly responsible for the research of satellite communication related cutting-edge technologies, and carries out satellite communication system design, standard formulation, application promotion and other related work.

According to reports, in 2021, relying on the Galaxy Aerospace low-orbit test satellite and the Zhongxing-16 high-orbit high-throughput satellite, the innovation center has successively carried out the experimental verification of the 5G-based broadband satellite communication system in the high and low orbit satellite communication environment.

Experiments have proved that this system has broken through the problem that the satellite communication system and the ground mobile communication system are difficult to integrate due to differences in signal systems, and laid the foundation for further research on the communication technology system of high and low orbit satellite fusion and satellite and ground network fusion.

The official also stated that the follow-up will continue to focus on the satellite communication system, for broadband satellite communication, narrowband satellite Internet of Things and other communication types, for high and low orbit satellite communication scenarios, carry out research on cutting-edge technologies and key technologies, and actively promote the development of satellite communication technologies and standards.
