The traditional armor of the peoples in WoW is not only very popular with transmog fanatics. They are tailored to suit each race and can also be mogged onto any type of armor – from fabric to plate. They are also far superior to most other armor sets in terms of detail. So it’s no wonder that you see the sets on various characters again and again, from the starting area to the mythical raids.
However, since the first sets of this type, there has been a request from the community that the developers have never addressed – even though they have confirmed on several occasions that they still have it in mind. What is meant, of course, are the appropriate weapons for the sets. After all, what use is the most beautiful traditional armor if you don’t have a weapon that looks like it?
No suitable weapons
Suitable weapons would be so important, especially for traditional armor. Animal sets, dungeon sets, quest sets or raid sets – the common armor sets are usually based optically on the theme of the respective area where you can capture them. Of course, the same applies to the weapons and shields that you get there. Therefore, with very few exceptions, there are always various weapons that match the respective armor. Unfortunately, this is not the case with traditional armor.
With some heritage armor this is only a small problem, as they are designed in such a way that there are already quite a few weapons to match. Other sets, on the other hand, are so special in appearance that hardly any weapon in the game really fits.
Dark Iron dwarves now get their first weapons
This includes, for example, the traditional armor of the dark iron dwarves – and Blizzard has now added suitable weapons for this on the PTR for patch 9.2.5. The name Arsenal: Dark Iron weapons indicates that these are indeed weapons that can only be used by Dark Iron dwarves – especially since they can only be looted by Dark Iron dwarves. However, the latter also applies to the new mount flame wolf, which can still be used by all races. Since the item for the weapons on the PTR cannot be used yet, this is only a guess.
And what about the rest?
Of course, the question arises as to whether this is a one-off thing, or whether Blizzard is now starting to equip all peoples who already have traditional armor with suitable weapons. That wouldn’t necessarily be unlikely, since Blizzard has been in the permanent “We’ll give you everything you’ve always wanted” state for several months. Also, like so many recent adjustments, this is something that can be accomplished with relatively little effort. With the massive amount of weapons and shields that come into play with each patch, it can’t be that much work.
On the other hand, the question also arises as to why Blizzard should now start supplying weapons to the existing traditional armor before all peoples have finally received their armor. There are still a number of peoples who are still waiting to finally be able to slip into traditional armor – for example humans, orcs or night elves.
Of course, designing a full set of heritage armor is a lot more work than creating a few weapons and shields. Still, it seems a bit strange that the second step is started here before the first one is complete.
Maybe with 10.0?
Of course, it’s also possible that Blizzard doesn’t just want to knock out the upcoming traditional armor, but is waiting for a suitable opportunity. Maybe the upcoming expansion, which will be presented on April 19, 2022, will revolve more around humans and orcs, which is why they will get their traditional armor. But maybe we’ll see the missing sets in patch 9.2.5, which are simply not finished and therefore not yet implemented on the PTR.
In any case, we would hope that the rest of the races would soon be able to enjoy traditional armour. Ideally, together with the appropriate weapons. Do you see things differently? Or do you still hope that your people will eventually get really suitable armor and weapons?
