Apple is celebrating its forty-sixth birthday today. It was founded on April 1, 1976 by three people: Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. From a small startup based in a garage, Apple has grown decades later into the most valuable IT corporation in the world.
Steve Wozniak retired from Apple back in 1981 and since then has not been involved in the company’s activities, although he maintained friendly relations with Jobs. Ronald Wayne originally owned a 10% stake in Apple, but sold it in 1976 for only $800. Now for such a volume of shares, he could gain about 290 billion dollars.
After a conflict with investors in 1985, Steve Jobs had to leave the company, after which its business began to decline. After 11 years, Jobs returned to the management of Apple and served as CEO almost until his death. He retired on August 24, 2011 and died on October 5 of the same year due to complications from pancreatic cancer. Tim Cook, who has been with the company since 1998, has been chosen as the new CEO of Apple.

Apple started out as a computer maker, but the company’s real success has come from smartphones, selling more than a billion units since 2007. In 2017, Apple opened a new headquarters that has been in development for over six years. The company’s second campus covers an area of 260,000 square meters; the concrete and glass building accommodates over 14,000 employees.
Now Apple is diligently moving away from smartphone addiction and is developing a variety of services (including music, gaming, television, publishing and sports), and quite successfully.
A year ago, Apple stock was worth $122, and Apple’s total capitalization was about two trillion. Despite the coronavirus pandemic and related problems, stocks have risen by about 45% over the year and are now at an all-time high. Apple has every chance of becoming the first IT company with a valuation of more than three trillion dollars.
Happy birthday Apple! Forward – to new achievements!
