Industry specialist Jeff Grubb had predicted: E3 will not take place at all this year. This is the second time the video game fair has been canceled after 2020.
A face-to-face event was unlikely this year. But the ESA is also not going to use a digital version this year. That means: The E3 2022 is actually cancelled.
Verified Twitter user Will Powers reported on this in the evening hours today. He received an email informing him that E3 had been cancelled. IGN was able to confirm the content of this mail a short time later. The organizer himself has not yet commented on this, but it is now only a matter of time.
This report is not entirely surprising. Because back in January of this year, the journalist and industry insider Jeff Grubb reported on one probable cancellation. At that point it was already clear that the event would not take place on site. The reason given was the then emerging omicron variant of the coronavirus. Now the end of the E3 is certain.
The reason for the E3 failure? Unknown. However, the talks regarding the event are said not to have gone harmoniously. Therefore, the organizer is already working on a concept for the year 2023.
In physical form, E3 last took place in 2019. A year later, when the corona pandemic took its course, ESA canceled the event. In 2021, the gaming fair returned as an online format. Now the fans have to do without the E3 for the second time.
