The developer of Battlefield 2042 now presented the planned changes to the maps, which should improve the gaming experience.
DICE wants to improve the gaming experience in Battlefield 2042 and also make changes to the maps. This should be done in harmony with the community, which is why feedback from social media and forums was obtained in March.
After consultation with the design team, the developer now presented the next steps for the map design and a timeline for it.
By resetting spawn and flag points and moving them closer together, you want to shorten the travel time so you don’t have to walk around for so long
The two maps Kaleidoscope and New Beginning will be the first two maps in the game that will be made available in revised form with Season 1 in the summer.
Here are examples of ongoing work to improve navigation on the maps mentioned:
The community would like to continue to travel more in vehicles than on foot. However, since deploying more vehicles could affect performance, a different approach is being tried.
For example, they are currently investigating “how the gameplay changes when the two-seat M5C Bolte appears in the armored vehicle pool and MAV appears in the transport vehicle category instead.” round to facilitate.
Furthermore, work is being done to ensure that there is sufficient cover after the points on the maps have been moved. This should also solve the previous problem where there were too few view blockers and combat often took place at a greater distance.
The graphics for the maps Kaleidoscope and Fresh Start show how these changes are planned to be implemented. They show that not only are you adding more cover and obstacles, but also raising the terrain in places to block line of sight.
Changes are also being made for in-game immersion and because the maps looked too untouched and beautiful. For example, on Kaleidoskop, the pavilion at B1 is being converted into a military facility. All around, the grass is replaced by mud and provided with barbed wire.
This is intended to improve the narrative of the battles and to give players the feeling that the targets are ready for battle while fighting over them.
In 128 player game modes, the battles are often too chaotic and players are often unaware of what is happening around them. The community sees the number of vehicles as the cause of the problem.
Therefore, the following changes will be made to the number and availability of vehicles:
- Reduced the number of Assault Vehicles and Helicopters that can be active at any time in 128-player modes per category from 3 to 2. Means: only 2 tanks and 2 attack helicopters can be encountered at the same time.
- Increased cooldown for attack vehicles and helicopters from 60 to 120 seconds.
- The MD540 Nightbird moves from the Transport category to the Attack Helicopter category and the MC5 Bolte moves from the Transport category to the Assault Vehicle category.
Finally, they want to more clearly define the paths between flags, making it clearer where enemy fire is coming from and the best way to move between points. You also want to look at unused areas and remove them if necessary.
The planned changes will take some time. At least the changes to the vehicles should be implemented in the next update.
