Epic Games today officially released and presented its new Unreal Engine 5. In the course of this there was also news about Tomb Raider, because the successful brand around video game icon Lara Croft will be continued with a new title. Crystal Dynamics is again responsible for the development and this time does not rely on the in-house engine, but on Epic’s Unreal Engine 5.

“We’re proud to be a part of the Unreal Engine 5 release,” said Dallas Dickinson, head of Crystal Dynamics. The new engine enables next-level storytelling as well as advanced gameplay experiences. The new Tomb Raider should also benefit from this. The aim is to deliver a cinematic action-adventure of the highest quality that fans of Crystal Dynamics and Tomb Raider deserve.

The game is currently in a very early stage of development. It is intended to unite the different timelines of the game series. The Origin trilogy finally told the events of Lara’s early days that made her the survivalist known from the old Tomb Raider parts.

It remains to be seen when the new Tomb Raider will be released. Finally, Crystal Dynamics is also working with The Initiative on the Xbox-exclusive Perfect Dark, for which there is also no date yet.
