NCsoft intends to develop its international activities: the MMORPG Throne and Liberty will therefore be distributed worldwide, in ten languages and on Steam – like Guild Wars 2, which is also expected on the Valve platform.
As part of the latest quarterly accounts of NCsoft, the executives of the South Korean group indicated their priority for the coming years: betting on the international market to boost the group’s growth. And it is understandable, in 2021, NCsoft achieved a turnover of 1.18 billion euros in the Korean market, for only 85.7 million euros in the West – according to the group’s executives, the potential for growth is colossal. This is why NCsoft now intends to distribute its games all over the world, simultaneously or almost.
And to reach an international audience, NCsoft clearly intends to choose Steam. According to Kim Taek-jin, the boss of NCsoft interviewed in the columns of Newsisthe platform of Valve is identified as a central player in the distribution of games in the West, and therefore likely to effectively support NCsoft’s international growth.
More concretely, NCsoft intends to rely on the experience ofArenaNet (its main US subsidiary), which plans to distribute Guild Wars 2 on Steam – the launch is planned for this year. parallel to Guild Wars 2NCsoft is also due to launch this year Throne and Libertyhis next MMORPG developed in-house in Korea: Kim Taek-jin points out that the game trailer recorded more than 8.5 million views on YouTube in two weeks, half of them in the West. The Korean boss sees this as a sign of Western public interest in Throne and Liberty and therefore plans to distribute his MMORPG in ten languages and on Steam like Guild Wars 2. The ten languages are not specified, but we bet that we will will find a French version and that the MMORPG should therefore be (more) accessible to Western players (than some other titles in the group). For the record, Throne and Liberty is currently also expected this year.
