Radeon RX 6000 optimally optimized
After the Ryzen offensive on the processor market, AMD is now also talking about graphics cards again. The new RX-6000 cards convince with high performance and efficiency. That almost calls for a tuning article, which we will deliver to you promptly. There is also a Geforce RTX 3070. The “small” ampere follows in the footsteps of the former high-end model Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, but does not quite match the model in terms of raw performance and memory equipment.
Loyal readers should be familiar with the tuning article for the RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 cards in PCGH Print 12/20. So we’ll go straight to the point, but would like to point out that we’ve also streamlined and streamlined the tuning procedure.
Long live the graphics driver
Whether it’s just simple analysis options or hours of tuning to the desired value: you need tools that support the respective graphics card. Once again, we use the not so popular MSI Afterburner in conjunction with the Riva Tuner Statistics Server (RTSS) to be able to call up the values in real time during the tests. The Curve Editor, a powerful tool of MSI Afterburner, is also used this time for tuning the Nvidia Ampere card. To do this, we observe the map very closely in standard mode and derive the degree of optimization from this. The applied voltage under load is particularly important, which is around 1.06 volts for the Asus TUF RTX 3070. After determining the voltage in the curve editor, the maximum clock frequency still needs to be determined. With the RTX 3070, for example, we chose 0.9 and 0.95 volts, more on that later.
