NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has welcomed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s announcement of a massive boost in his country’s defence spending. “At a crucial time for European security, this decision represents a significant investment in our nations’ security and freedom,” Stoltenberg said. Scholz said earlier on Sunday that the boost in spending will bring the nation’s investments above the key 2% commitment of GDP, as the Ukraine conflict forces Berlin to rethink its foreign policy.
