French President Emmanuel Macron has called a national security meeting to discuss the crisis in Ukraine, the Élysée Palace says. The meeting was convened following the announcement of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intention to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in eastern Ukraine. Putin had earlier informed Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about the plans.
