The fastest slope in Ratschings is uphill – if you happen to have a snowmobile. Roland Pixner fires it up after his guests at the Flecknerhütte have finished off their cheese dumplings and doughnuts by the cosy tiled stove, washed down with elderberry liqueur, and are now all ready to get back on their skis. Pixner helps his customers onto the snowmobile, along with their skiing equipment and they fly up to the hills, leaping along narrow paths and steep crests in a snowy roller-coaster ride. “I drove slowly today,” he tells them as they stagger off at the top.
