Italian lawmakers electing a new president failed to agree on a winner on Thursday, the fourth round of voting, even though at this stage only an absolute majority was required. However, no candidate gained at least 505 votes of the total of 1,009. As in earlier rounds of voting, most of the ballots were left blank, as lawmakers fail to form a cross-party consensus.
